Is there a more perfect pairing than art and music? There is, indeed... Art, music, and a refreshing adult beverage are all on the menu! Erik Burke's new project, dubbed "Top 20," was created in cooperation with Reno, Nevada-based Record Street Brewing Co.
Jesse Corletto of Record Street Brewery came up with the idea after presenting some pre-selected albums to Reno's own Erik Burke nicknamed OU. The proposal was then realized on a wall outside the brewery/pizzeria/live music venue.
The painted spines are a touch faded and ragged, as true vinyl fans know that music is meant to be performed, not simply looked at. This painting features some fantastic musical choices, with oldies from a wide range of genres being honored in paint. With record artwork and production by Andy Warhol, we appreciate the tribute to The Velvet Underground & Nico's famous LP.
Erik is based in Reno, Nevada, and paints murals in various locations across the world. His most recent works can be found in Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Korea, Italy, and Reno, Nevada. His work has appeared in the books ‘Street Art: The Best Urban Art from Around the World,' ‘Outdoor Gallery,' The Huffington Post, and The New York Times, among others.
Making a 40-acre ground drawing in the United States, creating a body of work while bicycling from Portugal to a gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark, becoming the de facto resident artist of Lassen County Jail while serving time for graffiti, and seeking out decommissioned spaces for wheat pastes are just a few of the artist's previous works. Throughout that time, he has returned to geography as a source of inspiration and a means of identifying a sense of place.
